Two ways real estate investors can hope to find a good deal are to look at sellers who have either faced bankruptcy or foreclosure.


However, one must be very careful in knowing how the processes work for those facing these circumstances - and for those hoping to capture a good deal.

Good news is that for the Utah REIA Main Monthly Meeting, we will be having both Russell Evans, Bankruptcy Expert and Attorney for Pearson Butler, as well as Brad Lancaster, Foreclosure Expert and Founder of Tru Homes and Construction.

During Russ's presentation on Buying Properties out of Bankruptcy, he will share with us:

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

ABOUT RUSSELL EVANS:  Russell Evans graduated from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1995. Since his graduation and subsequent return to Utah, Russ has practiced in the following areas: juvenile law, family law, bankruptcy, collections, personal injury and worker’s compensation. Over the past several years, most of his time has been spent working with debtors in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases.

He has served on the Bankruptcy Rules Committee for several years and is now serving on the Utah Bankruptcy Law Forum committee. Russell has been involved with the filing of thousands of cases and enjoys helping people reorganize their debt and get a fresh start.
Russell Evans attended Brigham Young University where he received a B.A. in Spanish Translation and Interpretation. Although he was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, he has strong Utah roots, as both, his parents are from Provo, Utah. He is fluent in Spanish.

ABOUT BRAD LANCASTER:  Brad Lancaster has a degree from BYU in secondary education (1996) and bought his first investment property in 1997 using a "No Money Down" strategy from Carlton Sheets. In 1999 Brad started full time work in the mortgage industry after 4+ years in door to door sales and sales training. In 2000 Brad became a licensed Real Estate agent specializing in short sales and pre-foreclosure investments. In 2007 Brad was the Operating Partner in the group that opened KW Westfield Real Estate in Orem. 
In 2010 Brad forfeited his Real Estate sales license stemming from losses sustained during the 2008-2009 crash. Later in 2010 he went to work with longtime friend and partner Jimmy Rex buying houses at trustee sales. Through 2015 Brad bought more than 200 houses at trustee sales in Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Utah and Tooele County. In 2016, Brad and his wife, Tiffany (principal broker at Tru Agency Real Estate), shifted their business to primarily Tooele County. Brad still buys properties through trustee sales and preforeclosure strategies along the wasatch front. He and his wife run a family business that has employed 5 of their 8 children. Brad is fluent in Spanish and passionate about personal growth, second (and third, and fourth) chances and enjoys many different physical activities.
